For Canadian builders NOTE: Canada DOES NOT have an equivalent to USA's FAA FAR-103 classification!
ALL Canadian aircraft, requires a pilots permit of some description.
In Canada, the max weight limit for an un-registered, un-inspected, un-powered, aircraft is 100 Lbs.(parachutes and hang gliders)
The BUG-like aircraft weights in at approx. 125lbs.
According to Canadian Transport Officials, "due to the lack of an engine for power,
the BUG-type glider CANNOT be classified as an Ultralight "aeroplane" in Canada.
The Canadian Goverment documentation, defines an "aeroplane" as being powered by an engine.
Canadian Federal regulations require a glider of this type, to be classified as an "AMATEUR BUILT GLIDER".
Aircraft inspection is required by the MD-RA. Inspection costs could reach CDN$1000.
Minimum Pilot License required: "Pilot Permit - Glider".
Possible Solution: Equip the glider with a SMALL ENGINE! (Basic Ultralight Motor-Glider!).
No inspection or certification is required (weight under 363lb max.limit).
You must apply for a registration number, such as C-Ixxx, CDN$110.
You still need a "Pilot Permit - Ultralight Aeroplane" rating, to fly.
Pilot Licensing cost will vary , approx CDN$3000
